Spirit Of Merseyside Awards

The Community Foundation held their annual ‘Spirit of Merseyside’ Awards on the 14th June 2012 at the prestigious St George’s Hall in Liverpool City Centre.

Over 400 people attended the evening which turned out to be a real celebration of the fantastic work that goes on throughout Merseyside. Community Foundation patron Cherrie Blair was present to kick off proceedings before the nominations for each category were displayed.

Liverpool Homeless Football Club were nominated for the Health & Well Being Award. Unfortunately for the LHFC contingent, the judges gave the top honour to a Wirral based project called http://www.theopendoorcentre.org/.

Whilst we were disappointed not to win this award, everyone at LHFC was quick to congratulate the winners and recognised the fantastic effort they were doing to tackle mental health issues amongst young adults.

Club Secretary Steve Barton proudly said “We wish (the open door centre) all the best in the future as they are tackling an issue that is closely connected with our project, it would be great to work with them some day.”

Craig Meddings, former LHFC player and now official referee & volunteer for the club, said that it was “Great to be at the event, and we should all be proud for finishing in the top three in this category. Check out the certificate!”

The evening was a great experience for everyone involved with LHFC representatives occupying one and a half tables!  As well as a good turn out from all the volunteers, three LHFC players attended; Long serving Goal keeper Mick, James Buckley & Craig Meddings. Volunteer Ben Carpenter said “It was a fantastic evening, we were able to celebrate as a team the achievements of the year. Disappointed not to win but it has been an inspiring evening all in all!”
