Harmony Day 2017

Monday 21st March saw us celebrate World Harmony Day at the Florrie where we united for a day of culture, music and food. Many people and organisations in and around Liverpool joined us in the celebration where we were promoting #OneCityOneCommunity. We would like to thank everyone for their support and we hope that everyone enjoyed the day as much as we did!

The Back Kitchen Project

The Back Kitchen Project is 10 week course for people who have experienced homelessness where they will gain Level 1 and 2 nationally recognised certificates in food hygiene. However, the course delivers a lot more than that. It is made up of three elements:

  • The academic side
  • The health and well-being side
  • The practical side

The academic element is delivered on a continued assessment basis covering all modules needed to successfully complete the course. The health and well-being section includes several core aspects covering areas such as yoga, meditation, coping-strategies and therapeutic practices. Finally, the practical section covers knowledge of a working kitchen including hygiene and food preparation with student’s input on menu-plan and delivery; along with the newly introduced section familiarising and putting into practice both recycling and environmentally friendly alternatives.
