The Back Kitchen Project

The Back Kitchen Project is 10 week course for people who have experienced homelessness where they will gain Level 1 and 2 nationally recognised certificates in food hygiene. However, the course delivers a lot more than that. It is made up of three elements:

  • Academic/theory
  • Practical/hands on
  • Health and well-being

The academic element is delivered on a continued assessment basis covering all modules needed to successfully complete the course.

The practical section covers knowledge of a working kitchen including hygiene and food preparation with student’s input on menu-plan and delivery; along with the newly introduced section familiarising and putting into practice both recycling and environmentally friendly alternatives.

Finally, the health and well-being section includes several core aspects covering areas such as yoga, meditation, coping-strategies and therapeutic practices.
