Liverpool Homeless Football Club together with Everton stars are backing a national campaign that uses football to educate against racism.
LHFC patrons and long term supporters of LHFC Everton and England ladies goalkeeper Rachel Brown, and premiership referee Chris Foy were also present along with Everton star Seamus Coleman, Show racism the red card ambassador former football Leroy Rosenior and vice chair of LHFC Mervyn Lynch all took part in a question and answer session with children from Sefton and Liverpool to demonstrate their support for the anti-racism charity ‘Show Racism the Red Card’.
The panel spoke to youngsters about why it is important to use the power of sport to tackle racism.
Coleman said: “For kids at such a young age it’s vital for them to understand what racism is so they deal with it and can report it if anything happens. It’s great to come along and show my support to causes like this.”
England and Everton Ladies goalkeeper, Rachel Brown, commented: “Supporting Show Racism the Red Card is important because in today’s society, prejudice of any kind is no longer acceptable.”
Ged Grebby, Chief Executive of Show Racism the Red Card, added: “This kind of event is ideal for addressing the subject of racism and thanks to the support of Everton in the Community we have been able to organise an event that is both educational and fun. We are confident that the anti-racist message presented further illustrates Everton Football Club’s commitment to tackling racism through education and will help show young people from the area that there is no room for racism in Liverpool, in football or in society.”
Mike Mills, Engagement Officer for Everton in the Community said: “We are pleased to be able to support Show Racism the Red Card on behalf of the Club. Here at Everton, we work tirelessly to ensure that Goodison Park is for all and supporting causes such as this is just one way in which we aim to make Everton for all.”
John Finnigan chairman LHFC stated “Racism in all forms should be stamped out; it has no place in our society. LHFCs belief is that we are all equal and should fight and defend the rights of individuals and those who are persecuted”
