In 2013 LHFC started its first Easter egg appeal for children in homeless hostels across Merseyside working in coordination with Liverpool YMCA, Whitechapel centre, and AFC Liverpool. The first year was a great success with over 200 eggs being donated by members of the public. Once donated, the eggs get delivered by members of LHFC and local volunteers to hostels across Merseyside. In 2014 this increased drastically to over 700 eggs and this year we received over 1000 Easter eggs which enabled us to distribute some to other charities to help support them and other children.
As always it is a herculean effort by all involved, not least the general public whose generosity never ceases to amaze. A club official said, “We would like to thank everyone who donated an egg this year. It gives people who may be in a difficult situation at the moment the chance of a smile this Easter.” We hope to see this number of eggs donated increase year on year to be able to provide even more children with Easter eggs each year.
